In May of 2016 the Reverse Archeology Team, funded by ArtPlace America, hosted a citywide block party. The event was on Main Street in front of the Orange Public Library in the heart of the city. The objective of the block party was to celebrate the many innovative and heartfelt projects happening in Orange and to gather oral history concerning I280- thus the name “Unity in Community”. The team worked with the municipality, school district, community schools and 22 grassroots non-profits to offer a fun day for residents in recognition of the pride the city holds in working together to bring in resources. There were interactive activities hosted by the organizations, bouncy houses for the children, DJ, street mural painting and dance/choral presentations by the Orange school children. It was a joyous day and so well received that the schools and city are planning to make it an annual event.
