Local Playwrights Explore Interstate 280
Luna Stage, an equity theater that is an anchor institution in the ValleyArts District, commissioned three 1 act plays by local playwrights. The plays explored the effects of the highway dividing the city past, present and future. The plays were performed as readings to a full house by professional actors, sound and media crews. After the readings, community members had a chance to exchange ideas and questions with the grant participants and playwrights. The session brought out many interesting perspectives to I280 and the effect on Orange. Several oral history reports were shared.
“Devil in Interstate 280” by Andrea Clinton explored current Orange
“Eulogized” by Phoebe Farber explored Orange of the past
“Tree Houses” by Dorianne Leigh Swain explored the Orange of the future
The plays resonated so powerfully with residents, both current and future, they will be presented again in May at the Orange Public Library.
